I thought i was cool that both him his brother both served in the military. It shows that they really do care for their country. He also made a comment on how it shows the people that you are willing to fight and stand beside them. The "desert people" are willing to give up everything they have to show good hospitality is almost unheard of in the world in this day and age. Even though we are Americans and are "the best" we always have to buy more and are never happy with what we have. We don't c are about our fellow man. These people will take in complete strangers.
Natasha LaBalle ARAB 1001 I had a professor from Jordan a couple of semesters ago, but I didn’t know much about the country at the time I took the class. So, it was interesting to learn more about Jordan when I previously knew almost nothing. The natural landscape of Jordan is beautiful and it was obvious that King Abdullah himself seemed to enjoy the outdoor activities that are popular in his country. I found it somewhat sad that the king couldn’t live his life as freely as he had before his father decided to name him heir, but it is also very apparent that he loves Jordan and its people. It was also particularly interesting how his experiences in America helped contribute to his understanding of western culture, which in turn contributed to his being better able to facilitate discourse between western and Middle Eastern countries given that he understands the people and cultures of both. These series of videos on different countries are not only interesting, but also debunk a lot of the misconceptions about that region of the world.
Jackie Simmons Arabic 1001 I was surprised to find that the natural landscape rather than the city life of Jordan was showcased in these videos. I would have liked to have seen some of the customs in daily life, but that being said, the tour of the landscape by King Abdullah II was amazing. The deserts were so vast and laden with history I'd never known. The Bedouin culture is mentioned with pride rather than disdain, which was refreshing. King Abdullah seemed to be a very humble man who really cared about people, and I was surprised to see that he had not been eager to take on the title of King.
I thought it was interesting how Jordan is more tolerant and open than any other middle eastern country. From what i have learned about Jordan it seems to be a very respectable country. Jordan gave citizenship to any Palestinians seeking a place to go after they lost their country. One of my mom's best friends is from Jordan and recently moved back there, but the rest of her friends that live there are from Palestine. Jordan looks like an awesome place to visit especially the ancient petra city.
Kenya Jeffers Arabic 1001 I love learning about different countries. I always find it interesting learning of the different cultures around the world. The videos on Jordan have really caught my attention. Even though I don’t see myself visiting there I like how The King of Jordan is very active with what’s going on with the country and the people their. I also like the architecture that to me is a beautiful site its self.
Jordan has a great and vast history back in Islamic days they had treasure hunting and those were by archaeologists. This video is related more about the royals in Jordan. As you can see most of the places are dessert and humongous mountains. In addition it showed you can skydive on dessert and sand board which seems a fun activity. It was interesting how it took 3 hours for them to climb to see Aaron tomb the brother of Moses.
I was fascinated by the "desert people" and how they are able to live their lives by such little means. It truly is an eye opener when you think that, here in Georgia, when there is a mere dusting of snow everything shuts down. Many people could not survive if the grocery stores closed for good, yet the "desert people" survive solely by their heard of sheep.
On another note, Jordan appears to have some incredible geography, from the huge rock structures, to the sunken-ship coral reefs. The culture difference is definitely apparent when the King of Jordan and those hiking with him stop for a break to have tea. This means someone had to hike with a teapot. Dedication!
This was an interesting video. I have wanted to visit Jordan for a long time to see the archaeological and historic sites. I love exploring places that no one has lived in for hundreds of years. It is amazing to imagine the people's lives! Even better is to visit places that people have lived in since ancient times. That is something that as Americans we don't get to experience very often. After watching the video, I also want to go to Jordan to see the beautiful scenery. I would love to take a hiking trip to see all the remote places people normally don't get to see.
I really loved this romanticized representation of Jordan. I did not have any previous knowledge of any attractions of this country and seeing the architecture of Petra and the other wonders was absolutely beautiful. It is amazing to learn how people in ancient times constructed these massive structures and built huge trading cities. I would love to travel to this area and take in all the magnificent cities and culture. I learned about the Bedouin in a previous class and these people are amazing in the work they do in their daily lives. Jordan would be a great site to behold.
