I really liked watching the videos. Saudi Arabia was a neat place to see the culture. A lot of it reminded me of Israel. I went in 8th grade, and the whole environment reminded me of there. It was interesting to see Danya eating food that she has never had before. She took a chance to show the world some of the main cuisine in Saudi Arabia. I also liked how it showed that the US and Saudi Arabia do have their similarities. Like Danya said, Saudi Arabia isn't just a desert, there is a lot more to it. I found her point of view on separating the men and women and children very interesting. To be honest I never thought of segregation of men and women like she did. It was nice and refreshing to hear another view point on such a controversial topic.

  2. For me, the videos were very informative and refreshing. I know a lot of Arabs but they are "Americanized", in a sense. I've been around a lot of Arabs and have enjoyed some of the food displayed in the videos. It is very true what they said about Arabs being very friendly and supportive of their fellow me. (Well from what I have seen) It's as if everyone is family and everyone looks out for one another. This is so different from how I grew up because for most part its every man for himself. (except for like your nuclear family) Laprecious Brock Arabic 1001

I have to say that I was very much surprised at this episode of No Reservations. Danya was able to shed light on the many misconceptions that we as Americans have of Saudia Arabia and the Middle East. The first misconception proven false was the idea that all Arabs are stuffy, staunch, and straight-laced. I think Danya and Anthony shed a light on how much they are people just like you and me that just have different cultural backgrounds. The second misconception is that Saudia Arabia is nothing but sand and desert when in fact it is very much a modernized country. However, what I found most refreshing was Danyas view of women and family. I do believe that as a western woman I would have a problem with being segregated from single men. I would have felt repressed and pushed aside. Now, after this video I feel differently. I can understand that Saudia Arabia has a very family orientated base and that the segregation is in fact a thing of respect. I really enjoyed this video and learned a lot.

Wow what an awesome video series. The closets I've been to Saudi was driving up to its boarder only to be turned away by its military officials, so disappointing. This past summer I spent a month in Jordan and there are a lot of similarities that I saw through this series. We all know about "Southern Hospitality" but the Arabs take it 10x to the next level. Over there you are their guest and within minutes they are willing to put their life on the line for you. They would go out of their ways not because they have to like the mindset of many in the United States, but because they wanted to. I could start a conversation with a random stranger and within 5 min we are the best of friends and their inviting me over to their house for dinner. One thing that took getting use to were the women all covered up. For a man your not suppose to look at the women so you spend a lot of the time awkwardly starring at the ground or in the opposite direction. The malls are amazing in the Middle East requiring that you go through security before entering the mall. Like in the No Reservation series it was bizarre seing the western trends or lingerie out in the open, didn't make much sense with the majority of the women being covered up. The Red Sea is awesome by the way. I got to snorkel in the coral reef and over a ship wreck and the only way I could describe it is that it looked like a scene out of the movie Finding Nemo. If you ever get the chance to go seize the opportunity you wont be disappointed.

Wow! Saudi Arabia was nothing like I expected it would be. I never reall knew anything about Saudi Arabia until I watched these videos. I had no clue that cities and homes were pretty much just like they are in the United States, and all of the activities minus the prohibited drinking of alcohol are the things that anybody would do in the United States aswell. The activites and the foods looked great and the homes and people were very invited and not like the news makes all middle eastern countries out to be which is rude and hateful. I never really had a good idea of what Saudi Arabia was all about until I watched these videos, and now I feel that I have a good perspective on the country.

I loved this video series! Normally I don't find these types of documentaries entertaining but I was surprised at how interesting it was. I think this is an important video video for everyone to watch, especially for the people who are blinded by the stereotypes that go along with Middle Eastern countries. I come from an arabic family so I wasn't too surprised at the things I saw in this video, but it was still very interesting to watch! I enjoy how the video shows that arabs are light hearted and very family oriented! I would definitely recommend this video to anyone wanting to gain more knowledge about the Middle East, especially Saudi Arabia.

I enjoyed watching the videos. I absolutely love watching No Reservations because I find other cultures to be very interesting. I have many friends here at GSU who are from Saudi Arabia and one is actually from Jeddah. I like how the Arabic culture is very family oriented and are against intoxicating themselves with alcohol. I like that they have a strong grasp on their traditions and cultural beliefs. That is not something you see too often here in America.I also like how the videos showed that people in the Middle East are just like people here in America because a lot of people assume that they are all like Osama Bin Laden, which is dumb. I enjoy learing about the Arabic culture and cannot wait to learn more in this class throughout the semester!

I found these videos very interesting! I love learning about other cultures and breaking the norm of what people think of them. It gives an insight into the rest of the world and reminds me that our way is not the only way. Something I found interesting was the dress. It is so different than the dress in the United States! The women must be covered from head to toe, and some even cover everything on their faces, except their eyes. The thing about the dress that I found most interesting was the fact that the women wear black and the men wear white. It makes me wonder what the origin of those colors are. I have so much respect for the women in Arab countries because of their modesty. It is truly something to be admired! Some girls in the United States compete to have the LEAST amount of clothes, and it gives the US such a bad image. Beauty isn’t determined by a woman’s body and the women in Arab countries know and believe that. I also wonder if they really enjoy the breaks of the dress when they are in front of all women or family.

This is my third atempt at this darn thing haha, so here goes. I enjoyed these videos a lot, they opened my eyes to how amaizing someone's culture is. Middle eastern woman are amazingly beautiful and extremly modest. I can't imagine how much work it takes to maintain the composer of a middle eastern woman. American girls believe the least clothes they have the sexier or better off they are. it's a shame honestly. I wish I could taste the food middle eastern people prepare it looks amazing! I love food and I would imagine I would love middle eastern food as well. When I watched those videos I was stunned at how beautiful Saudi Arabia is and basically how houses look almost like they do in the U.S. I look forward to learning more about this culture, language and everyday routine.

Watching these videos of the Arab culture was inspirational and enlightening for me personally as it get me more in touch with my Arab descent. The food reminded me of home(and made me quite hungry actually!) and the videos of the women reminded me of my cousins. The Arab culture is truly an interesting one and as all other cultures has to be looked upon at many different angles. Once more people open their minds to places like Saudi or Lebanon, the world will have an overall better feel for what it is truly like to be of Arab decent. Bringing us closer to a deeper peace with the middle east.

No reservations? I had never heard of it until now. And to be Frank Im quite glad I did. It seems like something I would watch on a continual basis. If everyone watched these videos I don't think there would be any more sterotypes or misconceptions of the Middle East or Arab vcultute in general. I Like the showing o fvideo games and movies theatres. The architechture and people all remind me of America in a way. The food was an interesting topic andkept my mouth kind watering. I think I might try some one day. Dayna and Anthony seem like prettty cool people. Thinking about trying to meet Them as well in person one day. Saudi Arabis use to be thought of by me as just desert and building less land but now I know different. Maybe its time I should learn about Africa next/. Separation of sexes was also something that interested me quite heavly. It seems like if used in the u.s could stop some pregnancys and such.
