  1. This video was especially interesting to me because my brother just got back from deployment in the Persian Gulf. My brother told us about the huge mall, the indoor ski slope, and the ice bars. It was so neat to be able to see the things he was talking about. It really got my attention when they started talking about how they built the buildings and are planning to build new ones. The ideas are amazing. I would love to have an apartment in the building that spins 360 degrees, and the way they are going to make it partly solar and wind powered to cut down on electricity cost is a great idea.

  2. I enjoyed the videos about Dubai because I learned a lot from them. Dubai's infrastructure is simply amazing. I believe the town's future is bright because they have so many innovative ideas. Sheikh Mohammed definitely impressed me. He seems to genuinely want to make Dubai the best place in the world. He is a powerful and ambitious man. His ideas will take them far.

  3. I like the fact that he is making sure that his people are being peovided for now instead of in the future. He is very ambitious and it shown in the growth of Dubai. The indoor ski slope is really a nice touch of fun considerng it looked like most of the buildings were about business or hotels. The idea of being the best has really causedthe country to start to expand and grow to its full potentialand the people there are embracing it. I love the way the color of the buildings and the material of thebuilding reflect their surrounding.

  4. It's amazing what you can do when you have a vision. There seems to be a lot of criticism about the way workers and women are treated in the 60 minutes episode, which is interesting, because we live in a country with similar issues. Human trafficking and worker abuse, especially of migrant workers is a huge issue here, and no one is building millions of dollars worth of worker dormitories to try and fix it.

I was also amused that the man in charge of building the park with what sounded like a huge mall underneath it pointed out that it wasn't the biggest one, that was next door. :)

  5. I have always heard of the wonders in Dubai, but until I watched the special about it, I had no idea how extraordinary it has become! I thought that Sheikh Mohammed ‘s desire to be the best in everything now and not in twenty years. In fact, the speed in which everything has grown is mind blowing and I might not believe it, if I hadn’t seen the changes myself!

  6. Dubai truly is as amazing as all the pictures and T.V. shows portray is to be. Everything there is new and shiny and stays clean because of the hundreds of thousands of workers they have working 24/7. I was fortunate enough to see the Burj Khalifa finished and standing next to it and looking up makes you feel dizzy. If there is one place to put on your bucket list it is Dubai.

  7. The videos about Dubai, United Arab Emirates were interesting. The clips were also very informative. I learned that Dubai is home to the world's tallest building and is one of the most multicultural places on Earth with only about ten percent of its population being locals. Being home to the world's largest indoor ski slopes and most luxurious and expensive hotel in the world were a couple facts I found entertaining. Sheikh Mohammed, one of the richest people in the world, wants his country to be number one with high education, health and housing. These ambitions appear to be realistic because citizens live the highest standard of living with free healthcare, college tuition and no taxes. Dubai has become a political, economic and financial success story in a few decades. The country is considered the "largest construction site on Earth" with a half a million laborers and $300 billion worth of projects. Dubai seems like a great place to work and an even better place to live. If possible, I plan to visit the country in the near future.

  9. Dubai, I believe is the country that bridges the societal and economic values of the United States with the religious and governmental style of many countries in the Middle East, and the country that emerges from those mixed ideals proves to be a beautiful and gleaming place in one of the more volatile regions in the world. As Dubai continues to grow, many nations around them (Iran especially) will probably look to the leadership of Dubai and that will hopefully create a more stable region due to the fact that Dubai is more tolerant than most countries in that region. If that is the case, we can look forward to a more stable middle east and the achievement of a goal that the U.S. just can't do, which is create a more stable middle east.

  10. Dubai really is an amazing place. By watching these videos posted on this blog, about Dubai and Saudi Arabia so far, I really am learning a whole lot about Arab countries that I didn't know. People in the US often assume that everything is extremely strict about women and poor as countries in general, because of what we are told by other soldiers that go on tours to the less fortunate places in Arab countries. I've learned from these Dubai videos that it is a really advanced place, and a major turist attraction. In one video, it was said that somewhere around eighty percent of youth in Arab countries have Dubai as a dream travel location, when it used to be London or France, or New York. I find that fascinating and the videos leave me wanting to travel there and see the giant buildings that one never sees here in Statesboro!!!

  11. I found these videos to be very interesting. I have always heard about how modern Dubai is and has become. Seeing the indoor ski/snowboard slope was pretty awesome because i had no idea anyone in Arab countries were into those sports due to the location. Seeing the huge malls reminded me of my time in Paris where there are two shopping centers that are similar to the one in the video. I would love to travel to Dubai because it is an Arab country and my uncle has been there and has recomended to me to go.

  12. These videos on Dubai were incredible. I have always had an interest in Dubai, and often check in to see what is going on over there. I think the architecure and the man made islands are mind blowing. Just watching the videos and seeing the amount of money that the people over there have is inspirational. I was actually able to eat at the UAE embassy in Washington D.C. a few years back and that was a really neat experience. I still remain friends with many of the guys I met and we try to keep in touch, which will hopefully be much easier once I learn some Arabic. It is definitely a place that I plan on visiting in the future.

  13. I found the Dubai videos very educational because a lot of the things I learned in the video I had no idea. Like for instance the fact that Dubai has one of the tallest indoor ski slopes as well as the largest ports in the world. I found it very interesting that Dubai is one of the most multicultural places on earth and that about 10 percent of the population consists of locals as well as it is the largest construction site on earth and the country has no taxes.

  14. The city of Dubai is a true oasis in the dessert to say the least. The building and resources seem to endless as construction continues to bring Dubai to one of the most advanced and wealthiest nations in the world. I have to say that when I first heard the leader of Dubai speak about these projects I was moved mainly because you could tell how passionate he was about giving his people the best that he could. I feel like we need more leaders like him who look impossible in the face and still defies set limits.

  15. The city of Dubai is the vision of one man, Seikh Muhammad. His ambition is limitless and I expect his name to be remembered in the region in the same way we revere leaders such as George Washington or Martin Luther King Jr. This one man's limitless authority and power has allowed such a jewel to be created. Dubai is the most modern city in the Middle East, possibly in the world. I only wonder if such a bloom is sustainable and if all the westernization will lead to the eventual over-throw of the sheikh.

  16. To see what the city of Dubai has become in such a short period is extremely fascinating. The city of Dubai mirrors the innovation and rapid development of today's megacities such as Tokyo or Shanghai. To say what Sheik Mohammed has accomplished a lot is an understatement and can't describe how his vison and ambition has brought change to his nation.
